Samuel Parker Salls  (1847-1916)

Note: Samuel Parker Salls was generally known as Parker Salls, or simply by his nickname 'Park'. In fact his gravestone in Marlington Cemetary near Beebe, Que, omits Samuel and shows only 'Parker Salls'. Parker Salls was listed as a farmer in the 1888-89 Eastern Township Directory, Lineboro Section North of Stanstead, Que.  In 1892 he owned lot 2, range 4 in Stanstead, Que. In 1909 he had lot 2, range 3 in Stanstead.
Benjamin Franklin Salls  (1821-1872) 
  Born: March 22, 1821 in Clarenceville,  Que, son of Issac Salls and first wife Elizabeth ("Betsy")
  Died: February 2, 1872 in Stanstead Country, Que, at age 50 yrs. Interment: Beebe, Que-Village Cemetary
  Married: Feb 16, 1840 to Lydia A. Tyrone in Alburg, Vt. , Que

Note: Betsy died when Benjamin was only 20 days old.  His father remarried 'Rachel Spear' Oct 21, 1821. As a result Benjamin's baptism certificate reads 'son of  Issac Salls, farmer of Noyan and wife Rachel'. Benjamin was 18 at the time of his baptism in an Anglican Church. Benjamin was listed as a farmer and a Presbyterian at age 31 in the Noyan, Que  1851 census. He was also on record as Benjamin Salls, Jr and Benjamin Salls, 2nd.
Issac Salls  (1782)
  Born: About 1782. in New York State, probably Canaan, N.Y., son of Hix Salls (1752) and Mary Briggs (1757) "Molly"
  Died: In Noyan, Que. After 1861 but before 1881
  Married: Twice
1. About 1805 to Elizabeth "Betsy",  born 1787,  said to be a full blood Indian, probably of the Mohican tribe. Died April 11, 1821 in Noyan Que. at 34 yrs of age
2. Oct 21, 1821 to Rachel Spear, daughter of Elijah Spear and wife Anna (a full blood Indian)

Note: Issac Salls was listed in the 1851 and 1861 Census of Clarenceville, Que as a farmer and member of the Episcopal Church. In 1846 he lived on the river road in Noyan, Que. The 2nd marriage record refers to him as a widower and says that Issac and Rachel, not knowing how to write, made their marks.

Issac Salls was one of the 111 members listed in   the 1804 to 1823 minutes of the Nelson Masonic Lodge of Clarenceville, Que.

Issac Salls was named  in various documents of the Commissioners Court including one in which he was a defendant in an action  on a subscription toward building a churchyard fence in which the plaintiffs were Benjamin Salls and Dan Smith, Church Wardens.
Hix Salls  (1752-1826)
  Born: About 1752. in Long Island, NY,  son of Issac Salls (1730-1800) a
  Died: April 26, 1826 in Noyan Que. at age 74. Interment: Clarrenceville Que, St George Episcopal Church Cemetary
  Married: About 1775 to Mary Briggs ("Molly") probably in Chatham, N.Y.

Note: Hix Salls was an active person involved in numerous activities such as real estate deals, land grant applications, Masonic Lodge Meetings as well as taking care of his farm in Noyan, Que.

In 1779 he had land in NY. In 1784 he went to Canada to join his father and brothers.

Hix Salls was a British Empire Loyalist and his wife, Molly Briggs, was a daughter of a French Huguenot lady named Dulait.

In 1685 during the reign of Louis XIV, when the Edict of Nantes was revoked, more than 500,000 Huguenot Proteestant subjects were driven out of France by the ruling Catholics. At that time it is possible that some of the Huguenots who went to England changed their name from LaSalle to Salls.

Some info about Hix Salls letting his house be used for the Nelson Masonic Lodge meetings (he was also a member) without compensation, that he was going to settle with the lodge and instead went rafting on the South River.

Issac Salls  (1730-1800)
  Born: around 1730, probably in Salisbury, England
  Died: Around 1800 in Clarenceville Que, -about 70 yrs. Unable to find information on interment, names of parents, name of wife, marriage records.

Note: Issac Salls was included in the Livingston, NY tax records (now Canaan NY) Under the name of Issac Searls in tax records of Kings District, NY.

Issac Salls, being a Loyalist in 1781, was forced to leave his home in Long Island, NY when his farm and all of his property which he could not carry with him was  confiscated by the American Authorities to seek the protection of the British Government and set his face towards the British Province of Lower Canada. He was accompanied by his wife, son & his wife,  who had one daughter and one son that was born on the journey.

At Skenesborough (now Whitehall NY) at the head of Lake Champlain the party embarked on the British sloop of war, the Maria,  and landed at Ash Island, Richelieu River on June 1, 1782. Guided by friendly Indians they traveled five miles east to what is now Clarenceville, Que. Issac Salls residence  was on the spot occupied by Clark's Hotel in 1850 and by the Dussalt Brothers store in 1972.

The place of Issac's birth is not clear, but there is a family legend repeated many times, that he was born in Salisbury England. No supporting evidence could be found in 1970. The Salt Lake City Genealogy Library has recods of Salls families in Worcestershire and Suffolk England but the relationship to the American families has not been established.
